Golden Eagles Slug Way to 30th Win
QUINCY--Kolt Kurzman had three hits and drove in four runs to lead a Feather River 17-hit attack during a wild 13-10 win over Shasta College on Thursday afternoon at the Eagles Nest.
That gave the Golden Eagles their 30th win of the season (30-9) and improved their Golden Valley Conference title-winning record to 19-5. The two teams will play again tomorrow (Friday) at noon in the final game of the regular season.
Kurzman went-3-for-5 with a double and a triple but had company in the three-hit parade category. Nick Anderson was also 3-for-5 and scored four times and Shane Danley was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Zane Denton added two hits.
Despite the abundance of offense, it wasn't smooth sailing for the Golden Eagles. In fact, the home team found themselves behind 9-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Knights consistently put runs on the board in the early going with two in the first, and had single plate crossings in the second in the third. In the fifth, they erupted for five runs.
But FRC rebounded in the bottom half. They scored eight times to take a 10-9 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish. The home team sent 11 batters to the plate and had seven hits. Kurzman had the biggest blow with a three-run triple.
Meanwhile eight pitchers toed the rubber for Feather River on a committee day. At the end, Will Page-Allen threw 1.1 innings of perfect relief with a couple of strikeouts for his ninth save of the season.
Prior to Friday's first pitch, Feather River will celebrate with Sophomore Day. The Golden Eagles will celebrate their 14 players playing their final regular season game at the Eagles Nest.
