Eagles Start Season 2-2
Quincy - The Feather River College women's basketball team opened up their season with four games last week. The Golden Eagles went 2-2 over the four game stretch.
Feather River opened the season up at home versus Ohlone College. The Golden Eagles scored early and often, winning by a score of 87-41. Feather River was lead by Freshman guard Megan Donnelly who scored 27 points on 12 of 19 shooting and recorded 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Alyssa Barnard had a double-double of her own recording 13 points and 10 assists. Margaret Canseco-Rodriguez came off the bench to chip in 13 points and 7 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles hit the road to take on a very talented Laney College squad at the San Joaquin Delta College Tournament. Laney used an explosive offense and a stingy defense to defeat Feather River by a score of 99-59. Jersey Tsosie lead the Golden Eagles with 11 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.
Feather River College continued the Delta College Tournament against some familiar opponents in Golden Valley Conference foes, College of the Redwoods and Shasta College. Feather River defeated College of the Redwoods on Saturday (11/5) by a score of 70-59. The Golden Eagles were lead by Barnard who recorded 22 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field.
On Sunday (11/6), the Golden Eagles found themselves in a defensive battle against the Knights of Shasta College. The two teams combined to shoot just 28% from the field and the game saw a total of 44 turnovers. The Golden Eagles trailed from the tip but continued to chip away at the Knights lead in the second half. Kylee Cox hit a three pointer on three consective possessions to cut the Knights lead to two. The Golden Eagles were unable to get the final bucket to go down and lost by a score of 45-42.
