Golden Eagles Are Undefeated GVC Champions!
Men's Basketball 10-0 Conference Play and 21-7 overall
The Golden Eagles Men's Basketball Team had to travel through snow and ice on Monday, February 16th to College of the Siskiyous. The Golden Eagles defeated COS 90-56, securing an undefeated GVC Conference Championship. Feather River finishes the regular season with a 21-7 overall record and 10-0 in Golden Valley Conference play. This marks FRC's first Conference Championship since 2016/17 in Men's Basketball.
The Golden Eagles were led by sophomore 6th man, Jerel Victor (Fairfield, CA) who had a game high 21 points (15 points from outside the arc). The Golden Eagles also received majoring scoring contributions from Damonte Duhart (Las Vegas, NV) and Kaeden Castillero (Las Vegas, NV) who had 19 and 17 points respectively. The Golden Eagles were led by Damonte Duhart throughout conference play. The 6'5" forward out of Desert Pines High School wrapped up conference play averaging a double double for the 2nd straight season.
Although sophomore standout Duhart has played a pivotal role in FRC's success, this championship run has been defined by collective effort. Damonte paced the Golden Eagles in conference scoring at just over 13 points per game, but offensive production came from every direction. Five additional players — Nick Fletcher, Kaeden Castillero, Armon Baker, Jerel Victor, and Zacarrion Jackson — each averaged double figures, underscoring the team's balance and depth. And anchoring it all on the interior was starting center Kam Ricks, whose defensive presence and dominance on the glass provided the foundation for FRC's consistency on both ends of the floor.
Head Coach Derek Jensen is completing his 3rd season with the Golden Eagles, and the program has seen improvement each of those seasons, beginning with a trip to the 3C2A playoffs last year and a Conference Championship this season. "We spoke about winning a conference championship on our first day together way back in August. Winning this GVC Championship has been our motivation since day one." reflects Head Coach, Derek Jensen. Jensen went on; "Hanging a banner, making a deep playoff run and moving our young men onto 4-year universities. Those are our priorities. We accomplished our first goal and now we are focused on what's next."
What's next? 3C2A playoffs begin on Wednesday February 25th. Playoff brackets and seeding will be released Sunday, February 22nd. 3C2A Championship Information and Brackets will be posted here!
