Golden Eagles Play Tough, Come Up Short In First Road Trip
Quincy - The Feather River College men's basketball team hit the road last week as they opened their season up at the San Jose City Tip-off. The Golden Eagles faced College of San Mateo, San Jose City College, and Monterey Peninsula College.
Feather River College lost to College of San Mateo by a 75-71 scored on Thursday (11/3). The Golden Eagles were down by as many at 15 points in the first half but battled back to cut the deficit to 6 points at half time. Feather River came out in the second half the same way they ended the first half and were able to build a 10 point lead. College of San Mateo chipped away at the Golden Eagle lead and eventually took the lead back with 12 seconds left on a three point field goal. The Golden Eagles were lead offensively by Sophomore post Fabian Cox. Cox scored 21 points off the bench. Robert Lee III grabbed 13 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
Feather River faced a tough San Jose City College team on Friday (11/4) and came up short with a 87-80 loss. The Golden Eagles found themselves in a similar situation as the previous night, the Eagles were down early, battled back to take the lead but couldn't sustain the lead at the end. The Golden Eagles were lead by Lee III, who recorded his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Justous Harvey chipped in 17 points and 6 assists.
Saturday (11/5) the Golden Eagles finished the San Jose City Tip-off against Monterey Peninsula College, the back and forth affair resulted in another closely contest game but Feather River came up short with a 74-71 defeat. The Golden Eagles were lead by Collin Tarver who scored 17 points. Cox came off the bench once again to contribute 17 points and 5 rebounds. Lee III recorded his second double-double in as many days with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Up next, Feather River College travels down to Rocklin for the start of the George Goto Classic hosted at Sierra College. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to play Sierra College on Thursday (11/10) and City College of San Francisco on Friday (11/11).
