Golden Eagles Complete Historic Season With American Championship Bowl Victory
The Feather River College Golden Eagle Football team defeated Monterey Peninsula College Lobos 34-16 in the American Championship Bowl on Saturday, November 27th. With the bowl game victory, the Golden Eagles finished the season with a perfect 10-0 record.
Monterey Peninsula took the early 3-0 lead with a 13 play, 6 mintue drive on the first possession of the game. The lead did not hold up for long as Da'Jon Thomas took a hand off 75 yards for a touchdown on the Golden Eagles first play from scrimmage. Following a forced fumble, recovered by Artia Taylor, the offense continued to roll as quarterback Jared Taylor connected with Jacob Backus on a 33 yard touchdown catch early in the second quarter to give FRC the 14-3 lead. On the Golden Eagles next possession Taylor found Dalton Flowers for a long 49 yard touchdown catch and run.
Following a three and out by Monterey Peninsula, Taylor recorded his third touchdown pass of the first half to Sam Marshall on a 6 yard strike to give the Golden Ealges a 27-3 halftime lead.
After an explosive first half of football, the Lobos and Golden Eagles traded possessions for most of the second half. Monterey Peninsula had a touchdown pass late in the third quarter to cut the Eagles lead to 27-9. The Golden Eagles were able to put the final exclamation point on the game and their historic season when Taylor found Thomas in the endzone on 4th and goal from the 8 yard line to take a 34-9 lead. The Lobos turned around a scored on a 3 play, 62 yard drive to give the final score of 34-16.
Offensively, the Golden Eagles were lead by American Championship Bowl Offensive MVP Jared Taylor who finished the game 15 of 21 through the air with the 4 touchdown passes. Defensively, the Golden Ealges were lead by American Championship Bowl Defensive MVP Dominyke Edwards who finished with 12 total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.
