Feather River Keeps Season Alive with 11-9 Win
IRVINE—Feather River scored a whole bunch of runs early and then held on for dear life to win a 11-9 game against fellow northern school Ohlone.
That keeps FRC's season alive at the 3C2A State Championships at Irvine's Great Park. The Golden Eagles will now play the loser of this afternoon's game between Santa Ana and Palomar, likely early this evening.
In a battle of the two top schools in northern California, Feather River built a 11-1 lead and then on as Ohlone's furious rally came up just short for the 11-9 final.
The Golden Eagles scored twice in the first and second innings and pushed three runs across the plate in the third and sixth.
Legend Lascaster and Luke Henderson had ground ball RBI in the first, and Nick Anderson drove in a pair in the second inning with a single. In the third, after two walks, Josh Davies singled home a Dirty Bird and Walker DesRosier plated two more with a one-bagger.
With the score at 7-1, FRC seemingly added all the insurance that they would need during a three-run sixth. Lancaster and Henderson had RBI-hits (Henderson's was a double) and Lancaster would score on a wild pitch to make it 10-1. Lancaster had another RBI base knock in the seventh to make it 11-1.
But the Renegades wouldn't go away. They picked up two runs in the top of the eighth and then made things extremely interesting in the ninth. Two walks, a hit batter, an error, and three hits including a three-run homer drew Ohlone to within two runs at 11-9. The error had allowed two Renegades to score with two outs, but reliever Carl Colavecchio got the next batter to ground out to end the game.
Lancaster had three hits and three RBI in the game and Anderson had a trio of hits, scored three times and drove in two.
Ohlone, the No. 1 seed in the North, finished their season at 40-10.
