Wild Day Leads to Showdown Sunday
QUINCY--A game to forget and one to remember for Feather River College baseball is in the books on Saturday, May 2.
The Golden Eagles took a tagging in game one to American River 24-9, but with their season on the line they bounced back to take a must-win verdict over the Beavers in the nightcap, 4-2.
That means the Dirty Birds live to see another day. That day is Sunday, at 10 am, for all the marbles when FRC takes on American River again for the right to advance to the 3C2A Super Regionals.
AMERICAN RIVER 24, FEATHER RIVER 9
This one got away from the home team before they even came to bat. The Beavers scored five runs in the top of the first and four each in the second and third innings to put this one away early.
ARC would go on to slash out 24 hits while five Feather River pitchers tried to stop the damage. The score was actually 24-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth when FRC got some momentum back with a seven-spot on the board.
When it was all said and done, the Golden Eagles had 11 hits, with two each by Walker DesRosier and Nick Anderson. Both also had two RBI.
FEATHER RIVER 4, AMERICAN RIVER 2
The Beavers got the first runs across the plate in this one as well, scoring two in the second. That 2-0 lead held until the sixth, when Feather River (playing as the visiting team) put three runs on the board to bring the fans to life.
An error, a Luke Henderson single and a RBI base knock by Jackson Phillips brought in two, and then a Josh Davies sacrifice fly chased home another.
The Golden Eagles would an insurance in the seventh after DesRosier singled and eventually came home on Legend Lancaster's single.
Meanwhile a pair of FRC pitchers helped keep the Dirty Bird season alive. Tanner Hail and Carl Colavecchio combined for the nine-inning effort. Neither gave up an earned run, with Hail allowing four hits in 4.1 innings and Colavecchio giving up two hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Lancaster, Phillips and Davies all went 2-for-4 as a part of FRC's eight-hit attack.
