Cougars Claim Second Win Over FRC
QUINCY--Lassen claimed their second one-run win over Feather River in 24 hours with a 8-7 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Eagles Nest.
The Cougars never trailed in the tight game and answered each Feather River rally with runs of their own. The Golden Eagles are now 27-11 overall and 19-4 in Golden Valley Conference play. Lassen improved to 25-13 on the year and 16-7 in league action. Lassen also won on Friday in a game played in Susanville.
Lassen got on the board first in the second inning with three runs, and added two more in the top of the fourth. In a 5-0 hole, the Golden Eagles fought back with two runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but the Cougars also scored twice in the sixth and once more in the seventh.
Jackson Phillips and Legend Lancaster had RBI knocks in the fourth, Lancaster had a ground ball RBI in the fifth and Landon Sable added a run-scoring single. Jake Dahl had the biggest offensive blow in the game for the Dirty Birds with a two-run double in the sixth.
Nick Anderson had a sacrifice fly in the eighth, but the home team couldn't muster a rally in the ninth and fell by one run for the second strraight day.
Feather River, who defeated Lassen three times in March, used 10 pitchers during the long day. FRC outhit the Cougars 13-12 but also had a pair of errors on defense.
Dahl had three hits and Lancaster had two.
The Golden Eagles will head to Shasta next Thursday and Friday for a pair of games, statring at 2 pm on Thursday and 1 pm on Friday.
