Cougars Walk it Off in 10th
SUSANVILLE--Host Lassen and visiting Feather River hooked up in a Friday afternoon pitcher's battle, which the Cougars ultimately won on a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth, 3-2.
The two teams will square off again on Saturday, this time in Quincy for a single game with a start time of 2 pm.
FRC's Jack Hanna and Lassen's Evan Rhoden silenced Cougar and Golden Eagle bats through seven innings to keep the score at 1-1. The two aces left after seven, with Hanna allowing just one unearned run, four hits and he fanned five. Rhoden allowed just one run and only three hits.
Earlier in the fourth, the Golden Eagles scored when Walker DesRosier singled and stole second, moved to third on Nick Anderson's single and came home on Kory Chu's ground ball. In the eighth, FRC took the lead when Noah Carrington and Josh Davies singled and DesRosier brought home Carrington on a sacrifice fly
But that would be all the runs the visitors could muster. The Cougars tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth and then brought home the winning run in the tenth on a single, bunt and error, another bunt and the winning base hit by Ethan Beede.
Feather River, who had already clinched the Golden Valley Conference title earlier in the week, is now 27-10 overall and 19-3 in conference play. Lassen improved to 24-13 on the year and to 15-7 in the GVC.
