Sweet 16!! Golden Eagles Continue Win Streak with 14-1 Win over Shasta
QUINCY--By the end of this weekend, the NCAA basketball tournament will have it's final Sweet 16 teams.
The Feather River Golden Eagles are already there.
Feather River won their 16th game in a row on Friday afternoon, taking out Shasta College 14-1 at the Eagles Nest. FRC improved to 20-6 on the season and to 12-0 in Golden Valley Conference action. The two squads will play again on Saturday in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
The Dirty Birds pounded out 14 hits in the contest, by 10 different players. It is the eighth straight game that the Golden Eagles have scored in double digits.
The home team scored in six of the eight innings. They built a 10-0 lead before the Knights got on the board. FRC put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the third and fifth with four runs each, and in the sixth and eighth with a pair of runs.
In the third, four hits drove in four runs, led by a Josh Davies RBI-double. In the fifth, Luke Henderson brought home two runs with a base knock.
Davies and Henderson both had two hits in the game. Davies scored three times and both of his hits were doubles. Henderson drove in three runs. Walker DesRosier had three hits.
Marcus Maeder took advantage of all the run support to improve to 4-0 on the season. He went five innings, didn't allow a run or a walk, scattered three hits and fanned six Shasta batters.
The Knights came into the contest having won five of their last six contests and are second in the GVC. They move into Saturday's doubleheader with a 8-3 conference mark and they are 10-14 overall.
