Golden Eagles Walk it Off in Home Opener
QUINCY--Any baseball home opener is a festive occasion, but Feather River's Legend Lancaster made it even more so with a walk-off home run on Friday afternoon at the Eagles Nest.
Legend's blast ended a wild game with a final 10-9 count for the Golden Eagles over College of the Siskiyous. The two teams will play again tomorrow in a doubleheader that begins at noon.
It was FRC's tenth straight win, improving to 14-6 overall and 6-0 in the Golden Valley Conference.
Feather River scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a three-run lead (5-2). Triples by Legend and Walker DesRosier played the biggest roles in the big inning.
But Siskiyous came back with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead. FRC then added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at 8-8. FRC's big blow was Isaiah Mezger's two-run homer in the fifth.
The visitors took a 9-8 lead in the seventh, but the Dirty Birds scratched back with a run in the eighth. Meanwhile, Carl Colavecchio shut down Siskiyous in the last two plus innings, setting the stage for Lancaster's heroics in the ninth.
With one out, Lancaster launched his game-ender, to send his team and the 369 fans into celebration.
Colavecchio got the win to improve to 2-0 with 2.2 innings of nearly perfect work. He didn't give up a hit, walked one and struck out two.
Lancaster went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Nick Anderson had two hits, a double and drove in a pair of runs. DesRosier had two hits, including a double.
FRC had 10 hits overall and did not commit an error.
