Dirty Birds Best Butte, 4-1
OROVILLE--Feather River patched together four runs on just six hits and let their pitching do the rest during a 4-1 Golden Valley Conference win over host Buttle College on Saturday afternoon in Oroville.
That completes a two-game Feather River sweep over the Roadrunners to begin conference play at 2-0. The Golden Eagles also improved to 10-6 overall while Butte drops to 6-10. The two teams will meet again on March 26 and 28 in a three-game slate in Quincy.
The Dirty Birds scored twice in the second inning, once in the third and again in the sixth. Walker DesRosier had an RBI-single in the second and Nick Anderson walked with the bases loaded to give FRC the first lead at 2-0. The visitors added another run in the top of the third on Jake Dahl's RBI base knock. Butte would get one run back in the bottom of the third, but the Golden Eagles added insurance in the sixth when Anderson drove home another run.
Meanwhile, FRC pitching was very effective. Jack Hanna went the first four, allowing only two hits, one run, four walks and he struck out three. A trio of pitchers followed, with Jayden Andrade tossing two scoreless innings, Ryan Pineo throwing three hitless stanzas and Carl Colavecchio wrapped up the day with a one-pitch save.
Six different players had the six Feather River hits, four of them singles. Jackson Hertel and Josh Davies had doubles.
The Golden Eagles did not have an error for the second straight day, and now have just 13 errors in 16 games played.
FRC will remain on the road next week, heading to the College of the Redwoods for a three-game GVC series, starting with a Friday noon doubleheader and a Saturday noon single game.
