Golden Eagles Swing Hot Bats in 15-5 Win
OROVILLE--Feather River opened defense of their Golden Valley Conference title with plenty of offense on Friday afternoon at Butte College.
The Golden Eagles lashed out a season-high 19 hits in route to a 15-5 victory over perennial rival Butte. FRC is now 9-6 on the season and 1-0 in the GVC, while the Roadrunners fall to 6-9 and 0-1.
Feather River set the table all day with the top of their order. Walker DesRosier, Nick Anderson and Kory Chu combined for 11 hits and nine runs scored. DesRosier was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, Anderson was 4-for-5 with a double, four runs scored and an RBI and Chu had four hits in five trips to the plate with two RBI and two runs.
The Dirty Birds built a 8-0 lead through six and a half innings of play, thanks to that offense and the starting pitching work of Marcus Maeder. Maeder didn't give up a run through the first half dozen innings in a scoreless gem. He left the game with the win, allowing just two hits in six innings, no runs, three walks and he fanned seven. He accomplished all of this on 86 pitches.
Still the Roadrunners didn't go away, cutting the lead to 9-5 through eight innings. But in the top of the ninth the Golden Eagles plated six more runs on six hits, sending 11 batters to the plate. When the 3 hour and 20-minute contest was done, ten different FRC players had hits. In addition to that top three in the order, Isaiah Mezger had a pair of hits, Jake Dahl had a home run and Jackson Phillips drove in three runs.
The two rivals are scheduled again for tomorrow at 1 pm, also at Butte.
