FRC Bats Come Alive in Doubleheader Sweep
UKIAH--Feather River pounded out 25 hits and crossed the plate 21 times during a Friday doubleheader sweep of Mendocino College.
The Golden Eagles completed the three-game sweep of the Eagles with the 12-4 and 9-3 victories. Feather River improved to 7-6 on the season while Mendocino dropped to 4-6.
In the first game, FRC connected for 16 base hits, their second highest total of the season. They scored in seven of the nine innings played, no more than two in any inning. They only innings that they were kept off the scoreboard was in the first and ninth innings.
The Golden Eagles also had at least one hit in every inning except for the first. When it was all said and done, six players had multiple hits led by Landon Sable's three hits and four RBI. Notching a pair of hits each were Kory Chu, Legend Lancaster, Jackson Hertel, Luke Henderson and Bryce Sargent. Lancaster had two doubles and Sargent had a triple to highlight the offense.
Marcus Maeder was the pitcher on the benefit end of all that offense. Maeder went five innings to earn the win, allowing just two runs while walking one and fanning four.
In the second game, FRC continued the offensive onslaught, scoring once in the first inning, six times in the second and added two more in the third. That would turn out to be more than enough runs for starting pitcher Tanner Hail, who went five innings and like Maeder and allowed two runs, walked one and struck out four.
Feather River had nine hits in the game, including four in the six-run second, when they sent nine batters to the plate. Lancaster had two more hits, two RBI and a double. Hertel also added the same numbers (two hits, two RBI, double) and Jackson Phillips added a home run, two runs batted in and a stolen base.
The Dirty Birds will head to San Mateo for a Saturday rematch at Noon before returning to Quincy. FRC fell to the Bulldogs 3-2 last weekend in Rocklin.
