Golden Eagles Get Revenge on Wolverines, But Fall to Bulldogs
ROCKLIN--One day after their bats went silent, Feather River College bounced back in a big way with a 11-5 win over Sierra College on Friday morning.
Less than 24 hours after scratching out just one hit against the Wolverines in a 6-0 loss, the Golden Eagles slapped 14 hits in racing to the series split. FRC plated runs in five straight innings and held an 8-2 lead through five and a half innings of work to cruise to the win.
Nick Anderson went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI and Kory Chu went 3-for-3 with four RBI to get the offense back on track against the Wolverines. Feather River scored two runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to keep the pressure on. Back in the second inning, Christian Obos hit a two-run double to give the Dirty Birds a lead that they wouldn't give up.
Marcus Maeder pitched brilliantly through four innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, two walks and he fanned six. He left the game prior to be eligible to get the win. Ryan Pineo pitched the final two innings without giving up a run or walk, and gave up just one hit. He struck out two.
Sierra fell to 5-3 with the loss, while FRC moved to 4-5. The Golden Eagles, after the San Mateo loss, return to Quincy at 4-6.
Later in the afternoon against San Mateo on the same field, the Bulldogs slipped by the Golden Eagles, 3-2 in a match-up of two 2025 Super Regional squads. FRC, playing as the home team, had two base runners on in the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn't get the tying run across. Christian Obos hit a two-out single and a walk followed, but the final out of the game was recorded on a line drive to left to keep San Mateo undefeated at 7-0.
The Golden Eagles leaned on solid pitching throughout the nine inning contest. Jack Hanna, the starter, was the hard-luck loser after pitching four innings and allowing just one earned run, three hits and he struck out three. Carl Colavecchio tossed three innings and allowing one earned run and Keller Bloodworth pitched a perfect ninth with three strikeouts.
Feather River will hit the road again next week for a three-game series at Mendocino Feb. 12-13, and will take on San Mateo again on the 14th.
