Wolverines Clamp Down on Golden Eagles
ROCKLIN--Visiting Feather River ran into a buzz saw of pitching and defense in falling to host Sierra College in the first game of three contests today and tomorrow in Rocklin.
The Golden Eagles were shut out for the first time this season in falling to the Wolverines, 6-0. The two teams will play again tomorrow a 10 a.m, then FRC will follow that up by playing San Mateo on the same field at 1:30 p.m.
Sierra's Matias Michel was lights out today for the Wolverines. He gave up a second inning single to Christian Obos and hit a batter, but then clamped down to retire 13 batters in a row before departing prior to the top of the seventh inning. He left the game after six full innings, allowing just the one hit with no walks and four strikeouts.
His replacement didn't give up a hit but walked six, allowing the Golden Eagles to mount a couple of mini rallies, including in the ninth when they loaded the bases. But they couldn't chase anyone home and finished with a zero on the scoreboard.
That wasted a pretty good pitching effort by FRC starter Tanner Hail, who went 5.1 innings and gave up just four hits. He allowed only one run through five innings of play before the Wolverines put four on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Riley Bestor pitched the final two innings for Feather River and allowed one hit and one walk.
Neither team made an error in the game as Sierra improved to 5-2 on the season and the Golden Eagles fell to 3-5. It was the first time that Feather River had been shutout since February 8 of 2024, also against Sierra.
