Golden Eagles Bash Beavers
SACRAMENTO--Feather River scored a season-high 18 runs and doubled up host American River College in a 18-9 slugfest on Friday afternoon at Beaver Field.
That outcome evened up FRC's season record at 3-3 and squared the series with the Beavers at a game apiece. The two teams will square off in Saturday's rubber match at noon.
The Golden Eagles scored half a dozen runs in the fifth and eighth innings to pull away from their hosts. They had 15 hits on the day, their second highest output of the young season.
FRC trailed after three innings of play, 4-2. Prior to that Kory Chu drove home a run and Jackson Phillips doubled home another in the third inning, and then Chu started the fourth inning rally with a sacrifice fly and Christian Obos drove home another with a single to give the Golden Eagles a 5-4 lead.
Feather River's first six-run inning came next. FRC had RBI-singles from Jackson Hertel, Walker DesRosier and Noah Carrington, and Phillips added a two-run single to push the lead to 11-5.
The Beavers got two runs back in the sixth, but the Golden Eagles busted open the contest in the eighth with another six spot. Carrington had a RBI-base knock and Legend Lancaster cleared the bases with a double as three runs scampered across. In the ninth, pinch hitter Bryce Sargent slapped his first collegiate hit to drive in FRC's final run.
Carl Colavecchio pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs, no walks, and he fanned seven. He put American River down in order in the ninth, 1-2-3.
