Golden Eagle Bats Go Cool in Road Losses
SAN MATEO--After torrid offensive start to the 2025 season, the Feather River bats cooled off today during a pair of losses to San Mateo and Sierra.
The Golden Eagles fell to the Bulldogs to start the day (8-3) and then dropped a 6-3 verdict to Sierra. FRC will take on Sierra again on Saturday (at San Mateo) at 10 am, and then will head to Sacramento to play American River on Monday at 2 pm.
After scoring 66 runs with 77 hits in their first six games, the Golden Eagle bats were bound to cool off a bit. Leaving snowy Quincy, FRC arrived in San Mateo still trying to thaw out and will attempt to do so again tomorrow. The visitors will take a 5-3 mark into Saturday's game.
In the opener against San Mateo, FRC fell behind 6-1 after three innings and couldn't catch up. Starting pitcher Tanner Hail had the first rough outing of his collegiate career and the offense could only manage four hits on the afternoon. Zane Denton had two of those hits, scored twice and had a double, while Rocco Crow provided a solo home run.
Denton had two more hits in the second game against Sierra, but FRC would only have five base knocks overall. Nonetheless, the game was tied at 3-3 until Sierra broke loose for three runs in the seventh and would go on to win, 6-3.
