Golden Eagles Stay Alive, Face Sac City Again
QUINCY--With their backs against the wall for the second time in the postseason, the Feather River College Golden Eagles scored early and often to secure a Saturday Super Regional final game opportunity.
Feather River downed Sacramento City College 11-5 in a must-win contest on Friday. They will now play Sac City on Saturday at noon, with the winner advancing to next weekend's NorCal Regional final, May 17-19. That's a best of three series that the Golden Eagles would host.
On Friday, FRC jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead through two and a half innings of play in a contest that they had to win after dropping their tournament opener to Skyline. Shane Danley drove in a run in the first and Jared Stevenson lit up the crowd and the baseball with a three-run shot in the third to set the momentum for the rest of the day.
The Panthers rallied back with four runs in the fifth to cut FRC's lead to 7-5, but they wouldn't score again. FRC pitcher Ian Hoslett was light's out for 3.1 innings of middle relief to keep Sac City off the board, and FRC added four more runs in the ninth for massive insurance. Grant McGuire had a two-run single and Kolt Kurzman drove home a run during that clinching rally.
McGuire finished with three hits in the game and drove in three runs, while Stevenson had the three RBI and the home run. Danley, Dylan Marx and Kurzman had two hits each in the FRC 14-hit attack.
Feather River will take a 35-9 record into today's rematch with the Panthers, who are now 25-18.
