Golden Eagles Face Uphill Battle
QUINCY--After falling behind early on Thursday to Skyline, the Feather River College Golden Eagles faced an uphill climb.
Today, on Friday, they have an even bigger mountain to scale.
Skyline built a 6-0 lead after three innings of play and went on to a 9-3 decision over the Golden Eagles on Thursday in a CCCAA NorCal Super Regional. Feather River now needs a run of three straight wins to advance to the regional finals, beginning with Friday's 11 am match-up with Sacramento City College.
Should FRC get past Sac City, they would advance to Saturday's noon title game in this three-team, double elimination format.
On Thursday, Skyline scored five runs in the third to build a 6-0 margin that forced FRC to try and play catch-up all day. The Golden Eagles put a run on the board in the fifth on Shane Danley's home run, but the Trojans kept adding on, taking a 9-1 lead into the eighth.
In the eighth, Feather River plated two runs on Danley's RBI-single, but that would be all. Danley had three of FRC's five hits and drove in all three runs. Skyline had 12 hits in front 199 fans at the Eagles Nest.
FRC falls to 34-9 with the loss, while the Trojans improve to 30-13.
