Wolverines Take Bite of Golden Eagles, 8-1
ROCKLIN--Sierra College continued its early season winning ways at the expense of visiting Feather River on Saturday afternoon, taking an 8-1 win over the Golden Eagles in front of 250 fans.
The Wolverines improved to 5-1 on the season, while Feather River dipped to 3-4. The Golden Eagles will play tonight (5 pm) against Sacramento City College to wrap up this capital area trip.
Jacob Torres pitched five strong innings for Sierra, allowing just two hits while fanning three batters. In all, four Wolverine pitchers held Feather River to just five total hits, all singles except for Nainoa Kane-Yates' solo home run in the eighth inning that got the Golden Eagles onto the scoreboard. It was the Hawaii native's second home run of the season.
Sierra had only nine hits to account for their eight runs, but they were helped by six Feather River errors. The Wolverines of the Big 8 Conference broke open a 2-0 game with four runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the sixth. Lead-off hitter Kota Suzuki led the home team with three hits, including a triple and three RBI.
Feather River's 5 pm game at Sacramento City College can be followed on the Feather River College Baseball Facebook page. The Golden Eagles will be looking to avenge a 5-4 loss to the Panthers this past Thursday.
